The Old Geelong 2nd XI 2017/18 season is back on track after a solid win over Old Scotch 2nd XI. Taking over the captaincy from Roly Imhoff, Ben Thomson showed good leadership winning the toss and electing to bowl first on a green top.
Roly and Ben opened the bowling each getting a wicket each but were both a little bit expensive. Jono Thomson came on after Roly and was the pick of the bowlers getting 2 for 21 off 8 overs with 3 maidens.
Johnny McDonald replaced Ben Thomson at the northern end but could not find the right area and he was replaced by Nick Abbott who picked up 2 for 39 off his 8 overs.
Charlie Mann bowled in tandem with Abbo and took 1 for 26 off 7 overs and Trevor Maggs came on at the end and picked up two late wickets to keep Scotch to a respectable score of 168.
Darren Edmunds & Nick Abbott opened the batting and immediately both showed positive intent scoring at a run a ball before Abbo was bowled for 9.
The Old Scotch bowlers fired up and our scoring slowed but to the credit of Eddo and Johnny Mac they batted through a tough period to seeing both openers off.
Eddo fell caught and bowled for 31 with out team total on 79 and from there we didn't lose a wicket with Johnny McDonald 58* and Charlie Mann 60* combining for an unbeaten 90 run partnership and giving us our first win this season.
